9/22/2006 8:49:45 PM

Jammu, Sep 22: Four special police officers (SPOs) posted at various check points on the Punjab border have been sent to police lines for allegedly allowing the smuggling of chassis of new vehicles into Jammu and Kashmir.

The SPOs were attached with police lines after they were found involved in allegedly "facilitating smuggling" of chassis of new vehicles into Kathua district, Kathua Senior Superintendent of Police J P Singh said.

He said a team of senior police officials last night allegedly caught the SPOs Ram Pal, Ravi Kumar, Baldev Singh and Karan Singh, posted at check points on roads bordering Punjab, permitting illegal entry of the goods into the state.

Five vehicles were seized and the drivers arrested, the ssp added.
