JAMMU, Oct 23: The Department of Commerce, IQAC, and NSS unit of Government College for Women, Bhagwati Nagar, in collaboration with Mission Shakti SANKALP Hub of the Social Welfare Department, organized a one-day lecture and workshop titled "Mental Health Disorders and Well-being." This initiative was held under the patronage of Principal Dr. Meeru Abrol to raise awareness about mental health disorders and their timely redressal.
The session featured an informative lecture by Dr. Rajinder Kumar, a renowned expert in psychology and mental health, who specializes in treating various psychiatric disorders, including anxiety and depression. He discussed key aspects of mental health, covering common disorders, symptoms, early warning signs, and effective coping strategies. Dr. Kumar emphasized the importance of seeking help and highlighted available resources and support systems for managing mental health issues.
An interactive session followed the lecture, allowing participants to share their experiences, ask questions, and seek advice from Dr. Kumar. This open discussion aimed to break down the stigma surrounding mental health, fostering a supportive environment for students.
Dr. Meeru Abrol expressed appreciation for the resource person and encouraged students to continue learning about mental health, stating, "The well-being of our students is our top priority, and it is essential for them to understand the significance of mental health. Events like these provide crucial knowledge and promote a culture of empathy and support."
The event concluded with a call to action for students to become mental health advocates within their communities. Attendee feedback indicated that the session was both informative and a valuable platform for candid discussions about mental health. The entire program was organized by Prof. Gagan Jyoti, Head of the Commerce Department.
