Early Times Report
SRINAGAR, Oct 23: Rajnish Sharma Mian, Vice President and Treasurer of the Jammu and Kashmir Pradesh Congress Committee (JKPCC), along with Vinay Gupta, Vice President of DCC Jammu Urban, met with Dr. Farooq Abdullah, President of the National Conference, to congratulate him and Vice President Omar Abdullah on the India Alliance's significant victory in the recent J&K Assembly elections.
During their meeting, Mian expressed hope that the Alliance will fulfill its promises regarding the full restoration of statehood to Jammu and Kashmir and the reinstatement of rights taken away by the BJP government. He emphasized that the people of J&K have cast a decisive vote in favor of the India Alliance, expecting the fulfillment of commitments outlined in the party's election manifesto.
Mian underscored the importance of restoring statehood, which has been a long-standing demand since J&K was reorganized and downgraded to Union Territory status in 2019. He stated that statehood is essential for ensuring political dignity and greater autonomy for the region, allowing residents a stronger voice in governance.
Additionally, Mian advocated for the reinstatement of the Darbar Move, a traditional practice that involved the biannual shifting of the administrative capital between Srinagar and Jammu, which was abolished in 2021. He argued that restoring this practice is crucial for maintaining regional balance and fostering inclusivity across Jammu and Kashmir.
Mian urged the new government to prioritize these issues, reaffirming the party's commitment to advocating for the rights and aspirations of the people. He expressed optimism that the new government would address these longstanding demands, ensuring progress focused on justice, equity, and balanced development for all citizens of the region.
