| All departments to be taken on board for free, fair LS polls: CS | | | Early Times Report Jammu, Mar 30-Chief Secretary S. S. Kapur reviewed the arrangements for the ensuing Parliamentary Elections at a high-level meeting of civil and police officers, here today. During the meeting, in-depth deliberations were held for ensuring free and fair Lok Sabha elections, scheduled to be held in five phases, besides the Bye-elections to the vacant seats of Bhaderwah, Sonawar and Hazratbal Assembly constituencies. It was told that the different wings of the Administration, along with security forces, would coordinate with each other so that no room is left for any eventuality. The meeting was told that 183 CRPF companies including 66 BSF companies would be deployed across the State for ensuring hassle-free and smooth conduct of elections. More companies of security forces would be made available for manning remote areas like Marwah, Dachhan in Kishtwar, besides Kargil and Leh. The troops would be airlifted to these remote areas well in time for ensuring adequate security of these areas. It was told that if Leh-Srinagar road does not open by May 1, choppers would be pressed into service for airlifting security forces to the far flung areas besides, dispatching poll-related equipments by air route, if necessary. The Divisional Commissioner, Jammu was asked to workout a strategy for adequate transport arrangements for the polling staff and a contingency plan drawn for meeting any eventuality. It was informed that proper accommodation facilities would be provided to the election staff and the security forces during the polling days in all the districts of the State, particularly Srinagar, Baramulla and Anantnag districts. All the Deputy Commissioners would be informed in advance for putting in place necessary arrangements for conduct of smooth polls. It was also decided that adequate stock of fuel supplies would be kept at remote areas like Kishtwar, Doda and Bhaderwah for transporting the poll-related material and security personnel. The necessary SIM cards would be made available to all the companies of troops deployed for poll duty, the meeting was informed. The Chief Secretary directed the concerned wings of the Administration to coordinate with each other and take all the departments on board so that incident- free polls are ensured in the State. Regarding identification of venue for stocking EVMs and counting arrangements, it was given out that appropriate place for the purpose would be identified and the Higher Education Department would be entrusted the task. Financial Commissioner, Home, Samuel Verghese, DGP Kuldeep Khoda, Transport Commissioner, P. S. Gill, DGP, CID, Ashok Bhan, Principal Secretary to Chief Minister, Khurshid Ahmad Ganai, CEO B. R. Sharma, Commissioner/Secretary, General Administrative Department, Basharat Ahmad Dhar, Commissioner/Secretary, Finance, Sudhanshu Pandey, Divisional Commissioners Jammu/Srinagar Director General, State Motor Garages, Director, Estates, Additional DGP, CRPF, IG, Jammu/Kashmir Zones and other senior officers were present in the meeting.
