SRS urges Central Government to restore full J&K statehood
10/24/2024 10:53:38 PM
Early Times Report
JAMMU, Oct 24: Shri Ram Sena (SRS) Jammu and Kashmir Union Territory President, Rajiv Mahajan, emphasized the pressing need for the restoration of full statehood to Jammu and Kashmir, highlighting that Jammu, in particular, has suffered more since the revocation of its statehood.
Mahajan drew attention to the significant impact of losing statehood, especially in the context of the promises made by the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) during their electoral campaigns.
"The BJP had garnered substantial support in the region based on its commitment to restore statehood, and fulfilling this promise is now crucial for maintaining the trust and faith of the people in the party," Rajiv Mahajan said.
He stressed that restoring statehood would not only be a step towards honoring the assurances made by Prime Minister Narendra Modi but also a practical solution to address the unique socio-political and economic challenges faced by the region, particularly Jammu. "The region has experienced administrative and developmental bottlenecks in the absence of full statehood, and local governance has been strained under the current Union Territory framework," he added.
He argued that a return to statehood would empower local leadership, enhance regional autonomy, and strengthen the governance structure in Jammu and Kashmir.
This would ensure that local issues, which are often distinct from those of the rest of India, are more effectively addressed, he said.
Mahajan believed that only through statehood can Jammu and Kashmir achieve long-term stability, development, and progress, as it would allow for more focused policymaking, better resource allocation, and increased accountability of the local government.
The restoration of statehood, Mahajan concluded, is not only a political necessity but a vital step for the overall development and integration of the region into the broader national framework, ensuring that the people of Jammu and Kashmir receive the governance they deserve.
