| Election Control Room set up at Kargil | | | Early Times Report Kargil Mar 30 In view of the forthcoming Parliamentary Elections 2009, an Election Control Room has been set up at the office of Deputy Commissioner, Kargil with telephone numbers (01985-234035 and 01985-232263). The Control Room will become operational from April 1 and all election-related material and voters list for Kargil district would be available there. In the meantime the District Election Officer (DEO), Satesh Nehru today convened a meeting of Assistant Returning Officers and other district officers to review the arrangements made for the smooth conduct of Parliamentary Elections in Kargil district. During the meeting, it was apprised that Zanskar Sub-division of the district was cut-off from the rest of the country due to closure of Kargil-Padum Road since December, 2008 due to heavy snowfall at Penzila Pass. The DEO asked the concerned officers to formulate a separate communication plan to airlift poll staff and election material to polling Station-49 of Zanskar Sub-division. The meeting also decided to recommend a separate Assistant Returning Officer for Zanskar Sub-division to facilitate the voters of the region. Among others, Additional Deputy Commissioner, Kargil Tsering Muroop, Project Director, DRDA, Fida Hussain and Assistant Commissioner, Revenue were also present in the meeting.
