| Taj seeks expertise in water conservation | | | Early Times Report Jammu, Mar 30- Terming conservation of natural resources imperative for sustenance of life on earth, the Minister for PHE, Irrigation and Flood Control, Taj Mohi-ud-Din today said that the expertise and experience of retired officers could be of great help in coming out with a comprehensive plan for the conservation of water bodies in the State. The Minister was speaking at a conference organized by Central Government Pensioners’ Welfare Association (CGPWA), Jammu to take an “Over view of water resources of Jammu, Kashmir and Ladakh regions”. Appreciating efforts of the Association in identifying the core areas which need conservation, the Minister said that government would welcome their suggestions in the program for the preservation and restoration of State’s water resources and eco-system. He said that the expertise of the Association could be of great help in treatment and restoration of traditional water tanks in the Kandi belt of the State. Expressing concern over the shrinking water bodies, Taj said encroachment around water bodies of the State needs to be checked. “We owe the responsibility of saving the vast water resources of the State for our future generations or else future will not forgive us,” he added. Describing retired officers of AIS as rare treasure of expertise, the Minister said such brainstorming exercise would help in pooling their knowledge on tapping and conservation of water bodies, which can benefit the government in formulating various projects. He said that creation of knowledge pool was necessary for coming out with long-term measures for balancing development with conservation works. President, CGPWA, S.S. Wazir presented welcome address, while General Secretary, J.K. Vaid read out the annual report 2008-09 highlighting Associations’ 15 year old history and its contribution to the service of civil society. Vice President, B.K. Raina highlighted the activities, achievements and future programs of the Association.
