New Delhi, Oct 26: Women are playing a pivotal role in India’s agricultural transformation, contributing significantly to sustainable agricultural development. With women comprising 33% of the agriculture labor force and 48% of self-employed farmers, their influence in this sector is rapidly growing. Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s government has emphasized empowering women entrepreneurs through financial support, skilling, and training, creating a strong platform for their participation. Women contribute 60-80% of India’s food production, taking on roles as cultivators, laborers, and agripreneurs. Their involvement in allied sectors such as livestock rearing and horticulture further strengthens the country’s food security and economic development. As agripreneurs, these women are not just ensuring food production but are also driving innovations in sustainable farming practices, including organic farming, precision agriculture, and farm-to-table initiatives. The Yogi government, along with various initiatives from the Ministry of Agriculture, has introduced schemes to support women in agriculture, boosting their economic independence and reducing migration to cities. Women agripreneurs are creating employment opportunities, diversifying income, and adopting modern technologies, contributing to the country’s economic growth and meeting Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). From value-added food products to selling dairy and farm products in local and online markets, women agripreneurs are expanding their businesses, transforming rural economies, and setting new benchmarks in agricultural entrepreneurship. Their contributions are vital to India’s agricultural future, fostering innovation and sustainability. |
