| SKUAST-J organizes training programme on soil nutrient management | | | Early Times Reporter Jammu, March 30 A one day farmers training programme was orgainised on soil and nutrient management in fruit orchards under rainfed conditions of Jammu at Dryland Research Sub Station of Sher-e-Kashmir University of Agricultural Sciences & Technology Rakh Dhainsar under the project funded by Horticulture Technology Mission, Indian Council of Agricultural Research on “Integrated nutrient management in fruit crops of kandi region” operating in the division of soil science. Dr. V.S. Verma, Senior Scientist and incharge of the Research Station, who was the Chief Guest of the training programme, exhorted the farmers for plantation of fruit trees best suited to the area and most remunerative to the farmer. Dr. Vikas Sharma, Assistant Professor and Principal investigatol of the project discussed in detail about the role of nutrients in improving soil qualityfoeenchancing production under rainfed conditions and stressed upon the balanced fertilization of fruit crops to maximize the benefits from fruit production while Dr.Anil Sharma, Junior scientist highlighted the role of soil in qualitative as well as quantitative truit production and educated the farmers about the method of plant sampling by farmers themselves Dr. Dalip Koul, Dr. Piyush Sharma, Dr. V.K.Singh, Dr. Vikas Gupta, Dr. Brinder Chuadhary of the station also participated in the camp and interacted with the participating farmers. Farmers took active participation in slaking their queries of various farm elated problems and desired similar such camps in future. Plants of mango, phalsa and litchi were distributed among farmers as an initiation to persuade them for planting fruit trees in their farms as a source of income.
