| Zargar, Saini join PDP | | PDP won’t allow coalition to pursue its anti-people policies: Mufti | | Early Times Report Jammu, Mar 30- Asserting that PDP will not allow the coalition government to purse its anti-people policies, the former Chief Minister and patron of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) Mufti Mohammad Sayeed today said that with the support of the masses his party would emerge as voice of the people of Jammu and Kashmir. Addressing a function here today to welcome Riyaz Zargar of Bhalesa and Chattar Saini of Bishnah in the PDP, Sayeed said that joining of large number of people in the party is a clear indication that PDP is filling the political vacuum created after formation of unprincipled alliance between National Conference and Congress. Riyaz Zargar a prominent Congress leader from Killotrian area of Bhalesa along with his large number of supporters joined PDP. Chattar Saini, a prominent leader of Bishnah, who had contested last assembly election from Bishnah assembly segment, also joined the party along with large number of his supporters. Sayeed asserted, “We will not allow the coalition to pursue anti-people policies”, he reiterated his party’s commitment to become voice of the people of Jammu and Kashmir. “Our agenda is not to grab the power but to restore dignity and honour of the people”, he said and added that PDP has revived peoples’ faith in the democracy and democratic institutions. He stated that PDP has pioneered a political and economic agenda to fulfill wishes and aspirations of people of Jammu and Kashmir. “Establishing sustainable peace and to consolidate reconciliation process is on the top of the party’s agenda”, he said and expressed satisfaction that during a short period of just three years, PDP, through its visionary policies, has established peace with dignity and honour. “Before 2002 assembly elections people didn’t have faith in the electoral process”, he said and reminded the gathering about his meeting with the then Prime Minister Atal Behari Vajpayee, who had later made historical announcement from the Red Fort on August 15, 2001 to conduct free and fair elections in Jammu and Kashmir. Speaking on the occasion, Zargar said that he has decided to join the PDP due to the policies and programs of the party. He said that it was only during the regime of Mufti Mohammad Sayeed that developmental activities were accelerated in neglected and backward areas. Saini, while terming Sayeed as crusader of peace, said that being a resident of border area he was very much aware that it was all due to the policies of PDP leadership that inhabitants of border belts have been living peacefully. He gave all credit to Mufti Mohammad Sayeed for restoring peace on the borders.
