GMC Srinagar conducts Mega Plantation Drive

SRINAGAR, Nov 2: As part of the family adoption program mandated by the National Medical Commission, another mega Plantation Drive was successfully conducted in Mulnar area of Dachigam Srinagar by Government Medical College Srinagar.
The event was organised in association with BMO Hazratbal and in collaboration with Kashmir Concern, NGO and the Rotary club Kashmir with the support of the Wildlife Protection Department J&K (Central Division).
180 MBBS students of 2023 batch, faculty and resident doctors of Department of Community Medicine GMC Srinagar participated in the event. The mega event was inaugurated by Prof. Iffat Hassan, Principal and Dean, Government Medical College Srinagar in presence of Prof. S. Muhammad Salim Khan, HOD, faculty and resident doctors of Department of Community Medicine GMC Srinagar; Dr. Fara Shafi, BMO Hazratbal; Chairman Kashmir Concern and Secretary Rotary Club of Kashmir; President Rotary International Kashmir and Rotarian from Bengaluru along with 180 students and staff of medical Block Hazratbal.
The event was held in the ecologically sensitive Upper Dachigam region with the plantation of 200 fruit plant saplings while demonstrating the commitment to environmental conservation.
This plantation drive marks a significant step towards restoring the ecological balance of the Upper Dachigam region. By planting a diverse range of trees, the initiative aims to enhance biodiversity, mitigate climate change, and improve the overall health of the ecosystem said HoD Community Medicine GMC Dr. S Muhammad Salim Khan.
Similar plantation drives would continue with other batches of medical students in the future also which inculcates the role of environment in overall health and development of people and the community.
