| SECURITY BEEFED UP ON THE EVE OF NAVRATA FESTIVAL IN KATRA, JAMMU | | | Jammu, September 22 : On the eve of the nine day long Navrata festival security has been beefed up across Jammu and Katra to prevent any major terrorist strike by militants at crowded and religious places. Senior police authorities after reviewing the security situation decided to deploy additional forces in and around Katra township besides beefing up security apparatus here in Jammu especially around religious places. Senior police officials told Kashmir Independent Press on Friday paramilitary and state police jawans have been assigned duties which included routine checking and frisking of suspected individuals, round the clock patrolling in and around Katra township and maintaining a tight vigil in the crowded market places to detect unattended parcel. A senior police official said, an additional company of armymen has been deployed on the periphery of the Trikuta hills to plug entry points approaching Trikuta hills where Mata Vaishno Devi shrine is located.Teams of anti sabotage squad, dog squad are already camping in Katra to prevent major strike. Meanwhile, Shrine board authorities and state Toursim department has already lined up gala show and are gearing up for the nine day long Navrata festival.Shrine board authorities are also expecting huge pilgrim traffic during the festive season surpassing previous years record and have made elaborate arrangements to woo pilgrims during the festival. Cultural programmes and folk music showcasing rich cultural and traditional ethos of Jammu and Kashmir will be presented during the festival. In Jammu and Katra hoteliers, food joints and restaurant owners and shopkeepers have announced special discount packages to attract large rush of pilgrims.A hotelier Chand Gupta in Katra said, we are expecting large number of pilgrims this season and are offering different concession schemes to pilgrims depending on their duration of stay. Special arrangements have been made for those fasting during nine day long navrata festivals. Famous food joints in Jammu and sweet shop owners are hoping to attract large number of customers looking forward to enjoy their fasting meals outside the four walls of their houses |
