| 23 nominations filed for Poonch-Jammu seat | | | EARLY TIMES REPORT SRINAGAR, MAR 30: Fourteen more candidates including People’s Democratic Party nominee filed nominations papers for the Jammu-Poonch Parliamentary segment Monday.
In all 23 candidates excluding two covering nominee have filed nominations for the seat which was last time won by congress.
Deputy Commissioner, Jammu, Dr Mandeep K Bhandari, who is Returning Officer for Jammu-Poonch seat, told PBI that 14 candidates filed the nomination on the last day today.
They include PDP’s Sardar Trilok Singh, Hilal Ahmad Beigh (independent), Santram (independent), Mushtaq Hussein (independent), Uday Chand, Surjeet Singh Sadhotra (RKSP), Satish Poochi (independent), Sanjeev Manmohtra (LJSP), Sardar Hari Singh Jor (independent), Ahsok Kumar (independent), Naresh Dogra (Independent), Sanjeev Kumar (Independent), Ramesh Chandra Sharma, an handicapped Independent and Rajeev Mahajan.
Among the others who have already filed the papers included Madan Lal Sharma of Congress, Leela Karan Sharma of Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), Abdul Majid Malik of Backward Classes Democratic Party (BCDP) and two Independents—Labha Ram Gandhi and Balwan Singh filed their nomination papers today.
For the Jammu-Poonch Lok Sabha constituency, the polls for which are being held on April 16, there will over 2000 polling station spread over four district of the winter capital of the city.
The constituency, according to political pundits, is likely to have a good contest this time round especially after the good show by Bhartiya Janta Party in recently concluded assembly polls. BJP emerged victorious from 11 assembly constituencies after cashing in on the Amarnath land row during the summer of last year.
As per the notification scrutiny of documents will be done tomorrow while the candidates can withdraw their papers on April 2.
