SKUAST-Jammu organizes training programme

JAMMU, Nov 4: All India Coordinated Research Project on Dryland Agriculture (AICRPDA), Rakh Dhiansar organized farmers Training programme under the able guidance of Dr. S. K Gupta, Director Research, SKUAST-Jammu before the commencement of rabi season at Advanced Centre for Rainfed agriculture, Rakh Dhiansar wherein more than 50 farmers of adopted villages viz. Khaner, Madana and Khada under AICRPDA-NICRA project participated. This programme was organized for preparedness to counter the weather vagaries which may occur during crop growing period.
At the outset, Dr. Rohit Sharma, Scientist, PI, AICRPDA-NICRA (OFR) welcomed the farmers and briefed them about the various technical activities to be followed during the ensuing Kharif season. Dr. Sharma further impressed upon the farmers to go for the adoption of recommended packages and practices for rabi crops. Dr Vikas Sharma, Prof & Head, Soil and Agricultural chemistry briefed farmers about the importance of organic manures which not only help in maintaining the fertility of soil but also help in improving the water holding capacity of rainfed soils which ultimately help the plants to withstand during the long dryspell situations While interacting with the farmers, Dr. Jai Kumar, Scientist (Agronomy) exhorted the farmers to adopt the scientific agronomical activities to increase the productivity of kharif crop and thereby making the farming a self reliant venture. Also he emphasized on adoption of climate smart agro technologies to improve their income.
Dr. Brinder Singh Scientists (Soil Science) gave detailed account of various ways and means to enhance crop productivity by improving soil fertility. Dr Sonika Jamwal and Dr A.C. Jha , Chief Scientist's (Pathology) awared farmers about the eco-friendly ways of managing rabi crop diseases. Er.Sunny Raina briefed about the various engineering interventions which can be adopted to increase the crop production of Rabi crops. About 50 farmers have participated in the said training programme.
