Early Times Report

Jammu, Nov 4: Although legislators of the Congress party attended the coalition’s meeting on Sunday to devise a strategy for the Assembly session, suspense still prevails over the grand old party’s role in the government.
The Congress leadership claims to be part of the coalition regime in Jammu and Kashmir but the National Conference is not giving any importance to the party due to numbers in the Assembly.
After managing the support of five Independents, a lone MLA of the CPM, and the Aam Aadmi Party legislator, the National Conference has managed the majority on its own in the Assembly.
With 42 MLAs in its command, the National Conference has the support of seven more members in the Assembly. As of now, the National Conference has the support of 49 MLAs in the House as the number has been reduced to 89 after the untimely demise of BJP legislator

Sources said that the National Conference leadership has decided not to give much importance to the Congress party due to factionalism and groupism in the party.
On the first day of the ongoing session of the Legislative Assembly, Congress legislators were seen maintaining a distance in the House. When the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) MLA Waheed-ur-Rehman Para tried to move a resolution during the first day of the session to restore Article 370, the National Conference members vociferously countered Para on this resolution but the Congress members were seen sitting silently.
Sources in the Congress said that the party’s high command was not happy with the worst-ever defeat in the Assembly elections so the central leadership, especially the Leader of the Opposition, Rahul Gandhi is not interested in the party becoming the party of the government.
