Cyber Cell Kathua recovers Rs 23,000 in online fraud case

KATHUA, Nov 5: District Cyber Cell Kathua under the overall supervision of SSP Kathua Sh. Shobhit Saksena -IPS has once again demonstrated its commitment to combat cyber crime by recovering online defrauded amount of ? 23,000/-
Brief facts of the case are that on 07/04/2024, an online complaint was received at Cyber Cell Kathua through NCCR portal in which a complainant namely Rohit Sharma R/o Hiranagar Kathua reported online fraud of Rs 23,000. The unknown fraudster who interacted with the complainant on the social media platform impersonated himself as a stock market broker and motivated him to transfer the amount to invest in the share market. The complainant hoping to get good returns from share market transferred an amount of Rs 23,000 to the fraudster. When the complainant came to know that he had been defrauded, he registered his complaint at Cyber Cell Kathua through NCCR portal.
During the investigation, the Cyber Cell Kathua team acted swiftly and exhibited hectic efforts and freezed the fraudster account instantly in which the defrauded amount was transferred. Today on 04/11/2024, the defrauded amount of Rs 23,000 has been recovered and credited back to the account of victim while further investigation is in progress. Pertinently, from the date of establishment, Cyber Cell Kathua has successfully recovered defrauded amount of Rs 35,05,895/- so far, this achievement of District Police Kathua underscores the unit's expertise dedication and tireless efforts in safeguarding the common citizens against online fraud and cheating.
District Police Kathua once again appeals to the General Public to remain extra vigilant and report promptly to Cyber Cell Kathua or the National Cyber Crime Helpline Number 1930 or visit www.cybercrime.gov.in if any suspicious call or online cheating is noticed.
