3/31/2009 10:51:38 PM

Jammu, Mar 31- Soon after the State government threw open the Asia’s biggest tulip garden for the visitors at Srinagar, the sprawling tulip garden at Bhaderwah in the premises of Bhadarwah Campus of University of Jammu is all set to greet the people of region of Chenab valley.
With nearly 40,000 tulip bulbs comprising 7 to 10 varieties of various colours have been grown in the garden.
With the keen interest of state government and University authorities to make this Campus more attractive and more eco-friendly, located in the foot hills of Ashapati and Kaplash mountains, the tulip garden is seen as a milestone in making holidays memorable for the people of this region.
The special significance of tulip garden in the ambience is far better than that of Zabwran tulip garden at Srinagar because in the back drop of tulip garden lies the snow clad “Ashapati Mountain.”
"Encouragingly, locals are also taking keen interest in visiting the garden. The locals including school children and families visited the garden last year in addition to those coming from outside,” informed Rector Bhaderwah Campus Prof. I A. Hamal
“The Tulip garden has a unique and feasible topography with a plain area on the foot hills that suits different varieties of flowers and terraces for different varieties of fruit plants,” Prof. Hamal said adding that belonging to the Liliaceae (Lily) family, tulips are best suited for dry soil of mountain areas and require small amount of water and grow better when snow falls heavily during winter.
Rector Bhaderwah Campus further informed that the tulip garden has been thrown open to public on all days between 3 to 5 PM.
The Vice Chancellor University of Jammu, Professor Varun Sahni, taking keen interest in the development of Bhaderwah Campus, has expressed that in coming years the tulip garden at Bhaderwah Campus should become one of the best attraction to any visitors to Bhaderwah Valley.
"It is very nice. One gets to see different varieties of tulips; such kind of scenery we can't see in other parts of our country; this is something very beautiful and astonishing," said Animika Parihar perusing MBA from Bhaderwah Campus.
Vandana Kumari another MBA student of Bhaderwah Campus said that there are very beautiful flowers and it is a heaven-like experience here at Bhaderwah Campus.
It is pertinent to mention that besides tulip garden the landscaping of the Bhaderwah Campus offers beautiful ambience with different verities of Shrubs and other ornaments coming to bloom with the onset of spring.
All this has increased the academic ambience of the University Campus, which is likely to become hub of knowledge in near future.
