Supporters of MLA Mohan Lal stage protest in Akhnoor
11/8/2024 10:20:52 PM
Early Times Report
AKHNOOR, Nov 8: In a powerful display of support, a large group of BJP MLA Mohan Lal's supporters staged a protest at Nirdosh Chowk, Akhnoor, today, expressing their displeasure with the Speaker of the Jammu and Kashmir Assembly. The protesters accused the Speaker of showing bias against BJP members, and in a symbolic act of defiance, they burned an effigy of the Speaker to voice their opposition.
The protest was sparked by allegations of unfair treatment during a recent Assembly session, where supporters claimed assembly marshals acted harshly and unjustly toward MLA Mohan Lal. The protesters condemned the National Conference (NC) and its allies for attempting to disrupt peace in Jammu and Kashmir with a "malicious agenda" aimed at reinstating special status through Article 370.
"MLA Mohan Lal's courage in standing against anti-national elements should be celebrated, not criticized," said a protestor. "We will not tolerate any harm towards him or allow any attempts to destabilize our region."
Prominent figures at the protest included Kuldeep Singh, ex-Sarpanch of Garkhal, who condemned the actions of the Speaker and NC members. Other voices, such as Pawan Singh Manhas and District Working President Manmohan Singh, also criticized the NC's stance on Article 370, vowing to prevent any return to the instability the region once faced.
The protest also attracted leaders like Sushil Sharma, Chairman of the Disabled Welfare Association, who accused the NC of distracting the public from unfulfilled promises. Many local activists and community leaders attended, making it a significant show of strength for MLA Mohan Lal.
