Awareness Programme on Legal Services held

UDHAMPUR, Nov 9: Department of Political Science of\ Government College for Women(GCW), Udhampur, in collaboration with the Legal Services Authority, Udhampur, under the able guidance of the Principal of the college, Dr. Nalini Pathania, organised an awareness Programme on “legal Services” today in the college premises.
The Programme began with the formal welcome address by the HOD of the Political Science Department, Prof. Swarna Devi, followed by the Lecture of Mr. Akhil Dubey, Penal Lawyer of District Legal Services Authority, Udhampur. He delivered his lecture on the topic, “Victim Compensation Scheme” in which he acknowledged the students about the Victim Compensation Rights. He also explained the historical perspective, origin and importance of Legal Services Authorities at National (NALSA), State (SLSA), District (DLSA) as well as at the Tehsil (TLSC) level.
Thereafter, Advocate, Mr. Aakash Sanmotra, Penal Lawyer of District\ Legal Services Authority, Udhampur,” expressed his views on the topic, “Free Legal Services provided by Panel Lawyers/ LADS and eligible persons.” He explained the Procedure for writing an application for the victim- compensation or for any other legal aid from the Front Offices at all levels. He also gave the contact no. of NALSA helpline no. (15100) to the students.
Principal of the college, in her address to the students, congratulated the department of Political Science and the HOD of the college for conducting such a motivational lecture. She said that the Legal Services, now a days, are kept free for the weaker sections of the society but the negative impact is that sometimes people misuse these rights for their personal benefits. She advised the students to keep themselves updated by having knowledge of these services.
Prof. Swarna Devi, HOD of the Political Science Department, also expressed her views on the occasion. She said that we all must strive towards excellence. She said, being the students of political Science, and being members of civil Society, the students must possess the knowledge about the Political, social, economic and Legal rights and services provided to them especially to women by their government and its different organs by keeping into considerations the utility of these rights not by misusing them.
Total 120 students attended the programme with great vigour and enthusiasm. Then in the question-answer hour, they raised certain questions from the Resource Persons and felt satisfied by their answers. It was hoped that they will spread the acquired information in the society so that all may get benefit of these services and thus fulfil their responsibility of being good citizens. The whole programme was conducted by Swarna Devi, DSW and HOD of the Department of Political Science under the kind-guidance of the principal of the college, Dr. Nalini Pathania.
All teaching and non-teaching staff members, who attended the programme were Dr. Seema Sharma, Dr, Indu Khajuria, Dr. Monika Gupta, Dr. Sanjeet Kour, Dr. Mool Raj, Dr, Shivani Soori, Dr. Ajay Kumar Sharma, Prof. Parwinder Kour, Prof. Meenakshi Jamwal, Prof. Rachna Bharti, Prof. Shobha Rani, Prof. Pooja Bharti, Prof. Yash Pal, Prof. Sunil Mangotra. Prof. Om Prakash, Prof. Pardeep Singh and Prof. Mushtaq Ahmad. Programme was concluded with the vote of thanks by Prof. Swarna Devi, HOD, Department of Political Science.
