UDHAMPUR, Nov 10: The District Handball Championship 2024 concluded on a high note, bringing together teams from across the district to showcase their remarkable skills, sportsmanship, and determination. The event, organized by the District Handball Association Udhampur, captivated fans with intense matches and inspiring displays of athleticism.
The tournament was inaugurated by Sumeet Sharma, President of the Press Club Udhampur, who graced the occasion as the Guest of Honour. In his speech, he applauded the association's efforts in promoting the sport and emphasized the vital role of sports in the holistic development of youth. He encouraged young athletes to actively participate in sports for their physical and mental well-being.
The event was also attended by other prominent members of the Press Club Udhampur, including Ashish Sharma, Ashwani Sharma, Sanjay Sharma, Sanjeev Magotra, Vinod Dogra, Bandna Sharma, Nitika Sharma and Som Dev Khajuria.
The championship saw intense competition, culminating in a nail-biting final match between Kargil Martyr's Handball Club and BBSVP Handball Club . In a closely contested game, Kargil Martyr's Handball Club emerged victorious with a score of 23-22 , securing their place as the district champions.
All matches were officiated by a distinguished technical panel, consisting of Pawan Jamwal, Ajit Kumar, Sanjay Sudan, and Soujanya Vaid, all of whom are national-level players.
The District Handball Association expressed its gratitude to all participating teams and acknowledged the Department of Youth Services & Sports for providing the handball court, which contributed to the success of the championship. The association extended heartfelt congratulations to all participants, emphasizing that the success of this year's event sets a strong foundation for future tournaments and the ongoing growth of the sport in the region.
The championship not only highlighted the talent within the district but also reinforced the importance of sports as a platform for fostering community spirit and youth development.
