Thursday, September 21, 2006 (New Delhi):
Attempts are on to explore the possibility of a ceasefire in Jammu and Kashmir. Sources in the government have told NDTV that the J&K Chief Minister's statement on ceasefire was to "test the waters".
The government wants to be careful not to repeat the mistake of the 2000 ceasefire when violence actually shot up.
Also while a ceasefire by army in relation to Hizb is "possible" from a security point of view, the government may not be able to take the risk of a ceasefire with Pakistan based jehadi groups like the Laskhar and Jaish.
