| West Bengal Minister calls on Baig, thanks state government for timely help | | DCM hands over cheques worth Rs. 6 lakhs to Mukherjee for disbursement among kins of killed tourists | | Srinagar, July 13 – The West Bengal Minister for Tourism Mr. Mana Bendra Mukherjee who had come heading a high level delegation of his state following the killing of six tourists in grenade attacks on Tuesday, called on the Deputy Chief Minister, Mr. Muzaffar Hussain Baig last evening. West Bengal, Principal Secretary Tourism, Mr. G.D. Goutama, Special IGP Mr. K.L. Tamta accompanied the Minister. The state government was represented by Division Commissioner Kashmir, Mr. Basharat Ahmad Dar, IGP Kashmir Mr. S.M. Sahai, Secretary Tourism Mr. Nayeem Akhter, Director Tourism Kashmir, Mr. Farooq Shah. Mr Mukherjee thanked state government and its officers for the efforts in providing timely help to the families of killed and injured tourists. He praised the local people for being on the side of these tourists in the hour of crisis and helped in extending all sorts of facilities to them including blood donations. The Deputy Chief Minister briefed the visiting Minister of the steps being taken by the state government to overcome the recurrence of such unfortunate incidents and create confidence among the tourist community. He said tourism is the index of normalcy and visit of people has its own set of political rewards. He praised the domestic tourists for their determination against all provocation. Thanking Mukherjee for the visit, Mr. Baig said it has come as a great morale for the people of Kashmir as well. On the occasion, Mr. Baig handed over cheques of six lakh rupees to Mr. Mukherjee to be disbursed among the kins of killed tourists. Later Mr. Baig and Mr. Mukherjee visited SMHS hospital and enquired about the welfare of the tourists injured at Gulmarg.
