Involvement of cops in drug trafficking creates ripples

Jammu, Nov 14: The arrest of two cops for their involvement in drug trafficking within a week from Jammu city raised many eyebrows as the incidents of the involvement of policemen in this menace are going unabated in Jammu and Kashmir.
In August this year, five cops among six government employees were sacked for their involvement in drug trafficking.
Last week on November 7, a police constable in Jammu and Kashmir was arrested along with his two wives for their involvement in selling narcotics in different parts of the Jammu province. The constable, Parwaiz Khan, was posted in the Crime Branch of Jammu and Kashmir Police and allegedly used his position to collect narcotics from narco-terrorists. His wives, Nargis Bhat, and Parveen Akhtar, were involved in selling the narcotics to clients.
The police raided Khan's residence and recovered approximately 1 kg 76 grams of ganja, 60 grams of charas, 22 mobile phones, a weighing machine, Rs. 25,640, foil papers, and other paraphernalia used in making small bits of chitta/heroin for further selling.
On Wednesday, Jammu Police arrested another constable for allegedly running a narco-terror module in Jammu city.
According to an official, spokesperson, Jammu police with a clear stance of zero tolerance to drugs abuse arrested another police Selection Grade constable Mohammad Mukhtiyar son of Shah Mohammad, resident of Geloti district Udhampur at present 76 Rakh Raipura Beli Charana, Jammu.
The constable was arrested when information from a reliable source developed by police was received that the accused was selling narcotics for profit generation on the premises of Government Medical College, Jammu, and was riding on his motor bullet motorcycle bearing registration number JK02 BW 1950.

On Wednesday, Jammu Police arrested another constable, Selection Grade constable Mohammad Mukhtiyar for allegedly running a narco-terror module in Jammu city.

The said selection grade constable Mohammad Mukhtiyar is posted in Armed Police 12th Battalion Zewan, Srinagar, and has been placed under suspension with immediate effect.
Accused Mohammad Mukhtiyar was part of a drug syndicate that is active in Jammu and is selling drugs to innocent youth of the area to gain undue profits from the sale of narcotics and is responsible for overdose deaths due to drugs happening in the area.
These incidents highlighted the need for increased vigilance and accountability within the police force to prevent such instances of corruption and drug trafficking. The Jammu and Kashmir Police have been actively working to combat drug trafficking and have made several arrests in recent months.
In August this year, five cops of J&K Police were terminated from services for their involvement in drug trafficking.
Those who were terminated included Saif Din, Selection Grade Constable in J&K Police son of Qasim Din resident of Shigani Bhallesa, district Doda, presently putting up at Javid Nagar, Bali Charana Naki Tawi, Jammu.
Farooq Ahmad Sheikh, Head Constable in J&K Police son of Abdul Aziz Sheikh resident of Ibkoote Tangdar, district Kupwara.
Rahmat Shah, Constable in J&K Police son of Manzoor Hussain Shah resident of Panjowa Pingla Haridal, Karnah, district Kupwara was also terminated from services.
Irshad Ahmad Chalkoo, Selection Grade Constable in J&K Police son of Saif-u-Din Chalkoo resident of Silikote Uri, District Baramulla and Khalid Hussian Shah, Selection Grade Constable in J&K Police son of Mehboob Shah resident of Chanipora Payeen Tangdar, district Kupwara were also terminated.
