| Kotwal reviews Jammu Airport expansion project implementation | | Asks for periodical review of the mega project | | Early Times report Jammu, Apr 01- A high level meeting of officers was convened here today by Divisional Commissioner Jammu, Dr. Pawan Kotwal to discuss the implementation of Jammu Airport expansion project. The meeting deliberated on various issues connected with project implementation and build consensus for solving these in an expeditious way in a close coordination manner by the executing agencies. It was disclosed in the meeting that possibilities are being explored for providing alternate land to Army authorities in lieu of the land being annexed with the Jammu Airport for expansion purposes. For the purpose transfer of 145 kanals of forest land with the title to the Army authorities at Sunjwan was also discussed in the meeting and it was disclosed that initiates would be taken to put this option to practice. The meeting was informed that 66 kanals of land from Irrigation and Flood Control department are also being acquired for the modernization of Jammu Airport. The Power Development department would also be provided alternate land for construction of new Grid Station and a store which are being shifted from the Airport area. The meeting decided to launch a strong anti-encroachment drive on the state and army land adjacent to the Airport, besides stopping fresh constructions on the proprietary land in the area. Issues relating to construction of road alongside the upcoming runway to provide accessibility to the local populace, shifting of telecommunication towers, construction of new sewerage plant and other required infrastructure at the alternate army land also came up for discussion in the meeting and it was decided that detailed project reports would be submitted by the concerned, so that these are taken up as early as possible. It was decided that Director Airport Authority Jammu would be the nodal officer for reviewing the execution of the project and maintaining close liaison among the executing agencies. The Divisional Commissioner, impressed upon the executing agencies to speed up the implementation of this prestigious project and ensure its completion within a time frame as the same was awaiting for last few years. He instructed the concerned agencies for making united and concerted efforts to remove the bottlenecks and take effective measures for successful and timely completion of the project. Delaying of the projects was not only resulting in their cost escalations but was also killing the purpose of these and making the people to suffer for want of updated facilities; Dr. Kotwal maintained and asked the executing agencies to take periodical review of this mega project. Deputy Commissioner Jammu, Dr. M. K. Bhandari, Chief Engineers of R&B, M&RE, Irrigation & Flood Control Jammu, SSP Jammu, senior officers of Air Force, Army, Airport Authority of India and state administration attended the meeting.
