He can clarify from the treasurer and can even see the accounts and receipt books", acting convenor of SAYSS Brigadier (retd) Suchet Singh told reporters at Geeta Bhawan here today. He blamed certain politicians and political parties for spreading misinformation on the Samiti's accounts, especially the Rs 1.67 crore collected during the two month agitation over the Amarnath land row, and said it was targeted to derive political mileage during the upcoming Parliamentary elections in the state. Defending his organization's role, Singh said that the Samiti has not gone door to door to collect the funds but it was donation from the public against proper receipts given to them. He added that money was either deposited online in a bank, with treasurers or presented to its members in various functions. He clarified that during the 62 day long agitation Samiti raised an amount of Rs 1, 67,33 596 and disbursed Rs 1,23,30,356 towards Shaheed family funds, as compensation to injured and businessmen who suffered losses during agitation and due to damage. Without naming any political party Brig Suchet Singh said that in the last couple of days few political leaders were frequently dragging name of Sangarsh Samiti to settle their political scores. "I want to convey to these leaders in very clear terms “do not involve us in political gimmickry”. Singh admitted that people who are pointing fingers at us were once part of the Sangarsh Samiti but now they are free to do their job. "I admit those making noise were with us during the agitation but they have their own agenda and pursuing the same for their own vested interests, he said and added that "We cannot stop them from doing their job". On the occasion Brig Suchet Singh also announced that the Sangarsh Samiti would soon constitute a Trust with six permanent members to raise a memorial and museum with the left over money highlighting struggle of people of Jammu and discrimination they are facing at the hands of the Kashmir leadership.
