Ministry directs EPFO to ensure UAN activation via Aadhaar-based OTP
11/22/2024 9:58:22 PM

NEW DELHI, Nov 22: The Ministry of Labour and Employment has directed the Employees' Provident Fund Organisation (EPFO) to ensure the activation of Universal Account Numbers (UAN) for employees using Aadhaar-based OTP verification. This initiative aims to streamline access to Employment Linked Incentive (ELI) Scheme benefits announced in the Union Budget 2024-25.
Employers are required to activate UANs for employees joining in the current financial year by November 30, 2024, beginning with recent recruits and subsequently for all existing employees. The campaign, coordinated by EPFO's zonal and regional offices, seeks to enhance transparency, simplify processes, and ensure seamless delivery of entitlements through Aadhaar-based authentication. UAN activation enables employees to access EPFO's online services, including managing Provident Fund accounts, submitting claims, updating details, and tracking requests, all from the comfort of their homes. The government plans to introduce biometric UAN activation using facial recognition technology in the next phase.
This initiative aligns with the Central Government's goal of achieving 100% biometric Aadhaar authentication for welfare schemes, promoting efficiency and accessibility.
