Gupta labels NC-Congress as ‘most communal’
Assails Omar for campaigning Congress nominees
4/2/2009 10:23:47 PM
Earlty Times Report
Jammu, Apr 2- Assailing the campaigning of Chief Minister, Omar Abdullah for Congress nominees, Prof. Chaman Lal Gupta, has observed that what can be the bigger opportunism than that the National Conference leaders, who just three months back during Assembly elections, were hurling serious charges against the Congress on various accounts, have now come out to plead for virtues of their old and estranged lover viz the Congress and more so Omar is holding guilty others for what his party leadership and the Congress were squarely responsible in this State of Jammu and Kashmir.
Prof. Gupta in a statement released here today recalled that during the Assembly elections the NC leaders had accused the Congress-PDP Coalition of being responsible for many ills, including swindling of hundreds of crores central funds, and had promised to have accountability of Rs. 24000 crores package money the State had got under the Prime Minster’s Reconstruction Plan but it was strange, that after assuming power with the support of the Congress, Omar and his colleagues have forgotten everything what they had promised just a few months back but for loaves and fishes of power.
Countering the allegations of being communal and playing politics of dividing the people, the BJP leader ‘charged both the Congress and the National Conference of being most communal’. In this regard he pointed out that in 1947, at the time of accession of Jammu and Kashmir with Indian Union, the population of Kashmiri Pandits and other minorities was about 14 per cent in the Valley of Kashmir but now this has dwindled to less than one per cent. Both the National Conference and the Congress owe an explanation that who was responsible for this sad situation, he questioned and pointed out
that during all these years, both the National Conference and Congress were in power and their communal policies and outlook were responsible for this disastrous situation.
Both the Congress and National Conference should also explain that why Jammu region has been given just 37 Assembly seats as against 46 to Kashmir Valley when Jammu is having double the geographical area and almost equal number of votes, he said.
‘Who is responsible for this political farce’, he questioned and said that ‘whether National Conference and Congress are not playing divisive politics or those who are opposing this injustice and undemocratic approach of those who have made a mockery of democracy resulting in so many problems’.
Prof. Gupta appealed to the electorates that they should ponder over the whole situation before casting their votes. Who was ‘ASLI MUJRAM’ and who is at the receiving end. This is the time for punishing the culprits, he stressed.
