JAMMU, Nov 23: Ananya Sharma, a BA Semester I student of Government Degree College (GDC) Neeli Nallah, clinched the Gold Medal in the Inter-Collegiate Boxing Championship 2024 held at Jammu University's Sports Stadium from November 21-22.
Organized by the Directorate of Sports and Physical Education Jammu in collaboration with the Boxing Association J&K under the J&K Sports Council banner, the event brought together around 200 participants from colleges and schools across Jammu division.
Competing in the below 50 kg women's category, Ananya defeated three opponents with remarkable skill and determination. In a thrilling final bout, she secured a knockout victory against Neema Devi of GDC Basohli, showcasing her technical expertise and resilience.
Expressing her joy, Ananya said, "Winning this championship is a dream come true. I am grateful to GDC Neeli Nallah for providing me the platform to pursue both academics and boxing."
Principal Dr. (Prof.) Seema Arora congratulated Ananya on her achievement, emphasizing the role of sports in shaping well-rounded individuals. "Sports enhance physical fitness, contribute to mental well-being, and impart life skills like teamwork, discipline, and leadership. We are proud of Ananya and look forward to more such accomplishments," she said.
Sports Convenor Prof. Shaista Yasmeen and PTI Dr. Muntazir were also lauded for their dedication in training and preparing students for such prestigious competitions.
