11/23/2024 10:08:19 PM
Early Times Report
SRINAGAR, Nov 23: Mohd Suleman Choudhary, IPS, Inspector General of Police (IGP) Traffic, chaired a crucial meeting with all Unit Heads of Traffic Police to address the current traffic challenges and ensure the effective implementation of the Hon'ble Supreme Court's recommendations on road safety. The meeting saw Jammu-based officers, including SSP Traffic NHW Raman, attending in person, while Kashmir-based officers joined via virtual mode.
The primary focus of the meeting was to identify key issues such as traffic congestion, high accident rates, and the need for better enforcement and infrastructure to improve road safety across the Union Territory of Jammu and Kashmir. IGP Choudhary emphasized the importance of collaborative efforts to tackle these challenges and improve the overall traffic scenario.
During the discussions, the IGP urged all supervisory officers to align their local traffic strategies with the directives issued by the Supreme Court on road safety. He particularly stressed the need for close coordination between the Traffic Police and the authorities of the Smart Cities of Jammu and Srinagar to expedite construction works and reduce traffic bottlenecks. Special attention was given to the removal of obstacles in developing areas to facilitate smoother traffic flow.
In line with road safety initiatives, IGP Choudhary instructed SSP Traffic City Jammu and City Srinagar to maintain a visible presence on roads, especially during peak hours. The officers were also directed to intensify drives to curb underage driving, drunken driving, and overspeeding in order to reduce accidents and ensure better compliance with traffic laws.
The meeting concluded with a collective commitment to enhancing coordination between traffic authorities, local bodies, and other stakeholders to implement effective solutions for improved traffic management and road safety across J&K.
