| Governor asks INTACH for time bound restoration of Bhimgarh Fort | | | Early Times Report Jammu, Apr 2- The Chairman, INTACH, S. K. Mishra accompanied by Member-Secretary, INTACH, Yogendra Narain, called on the Governor, N. N. Vohra, here today and apprised him of the various initiatives being taken by INTACH in Jammu and Kashmir in the area of heritage preservation and conservation. The Governor was briefed on the present status of the restoration work being carried out by INTACH in the prestigious Mubarak Mandi Complex in Jammu. The Governor urged Chairman INTACH to consider the need of urgent steps being taken for the time-bound restoration of Bhimgarh Fort at Reasi, from both heritage and architectural perspectives, to restore its grandeur as a monumental icon of rich Dogra heritage. The Governor said that the State has a vast treasure of historical sites of considerable tourist interest, adding that there is tremendous scope for the promotion of religious and cultural tourism in the State, particularly in the various parts of the Jammu division. As a part of the program of diversification of tourism circuits, the Governor observed that there was an imminent need to restore heritage buildings to attract even a small percentage of the very large number of Yatris who visit the Holy Shrine of Shri Mata Vaishno Devi to such places of cultural interest. During the discussions, the extreme importance and high urgency for putting in place a State legislation for the preservation of heritage was emphasized. Mishra and Narain put forth several suggestions for showcasing the culture and heritage potential of the State. The Principal Secretary to Governor, B. B. Vyas, who is also the Chief Executive Officer, Shri Mata Vaishno Devi Shrine Board, also participated in the discussions
