GDC Ramban organises educational field trip

RAMBAN, Nov 25: Institutions innovation council (IIC) organised an educational field tour of students of GDC Ramban to Chenab Valley Farm (Zubair Ahmad Sohail Farm) at Chamalwas (Banihal) of District Ramban. The visit aimed to bridge the gap between theoretical knowledge and its applications, fostering an understanding of innovative farming techniques, agri-business management and sustainability practices.
The tour was coordinated by Prof. Satish Kumar, HOD Zoology and Dr. Jawaid Sarver, convenor IIC, assisted by Dr. Shivali Gupta and Dr. Gazala Bashir under the supervision of Prof. Archana Kaul, Principal of the college.
The tour warmly welcomed by the host Zubair Ahmad Sohail, a prominent agri- entrepreneur at their farm. He gave an introduction to their journey, the challenges faced and the strategies adopted to built a successful agricultural enterprise. He provided students a comprehensive understanding of modern farming techniques. Students observed the use of advanced farming equipments, water harvesting and organic farming methods. Detailed explanations were provided about crop rotation, their propagation and high yield crop varieties. The farm showcased its greenhouse unit, where high valued crops like vegetables and exotic fruits were cultivated. Students learned about temperature regulation, soil quality maintenance and market demand for such produce.
A brief interactive session was also conducted in which students asked insightful questions regarding market trends and challenges in agriculture, government schemes, role of technology in enhancing farm productivity. Zubair further encouraged students to consider careers in agriculture, emphasising its potential for innovation and growth.
The educational tour to the agricultural farm was invaluable experience for the students. It provided them with practical knowledge, inspired innovative thinkiwng and emphasized the importance of agriculture in economic development.
The tour concluded with heartfelt gratitude extended by Prof. Archana Kaul, Principal of the college, who also accompanied the visiting students, to Zubair Ahmad Sohail (agri-entrepreneur) for his hospitality and sharing their expertise.
