| Exploitation of fruit growers and traders would not be tolerated: Dialwar | | | SRINAGAR, SEPTEMBER 22 – Asserting that no body will be allowed to fleece the growers/traders of the state in the garb of artificial scarcity of trucks created by the vested interests in various transport agencies, the Minister for Horticulture, Irrigation and FC, PHE Mr. Dilawar Mir today called for bringing trucks from neighboring states of Haryana and Punjab to ensure availability of adequate number of trucks to the fruit growers of the valley at the notified rates by the government. Chairing a high level meeting of MotorVehicle department, Transport, Police and concerned Horticulture department, the minister directed for monitoring availability of trucks to the fruit growers and traders at the rate of Rs. 38/- per box from the valley to Delhi fixed by the government. He directed the concerned Deputy Commissioners and Senior Superintendents of Police to constitute task force at district level comprising officers of MVD and Territorial Police to oversee availability of trucks to the fruit growers/traders on the fixed rates which have been formally notified by the government today. The Principal Secretary Agriculture, S.S. Sahani, Commissioner/Secretary Transport, D.K. Naargotra, Commissioner Secretary Law Mr. Kochak, DIG (Traffic), Mr. M. Amin Shah, Director RTO, Kashmir and representatives of SRTC were present in the meeting. The Minister urged upon the concerned officers and law enforcing agencies to work in harmony and ensure that nobody creates any obstacles in the smooth movement of fruits from various markets of the valley to different destinations in the country. He said growers and transporters are two wheels of the state’s economy and both have to safe guard each others interests. The Minister urged upon the law enforcing agencies to take stringent action against the violators of government directions issued in this behalf. He further reiterated that unregistered transport agencies shall be closed down and the touts exploiting the present situation in the peak fruit session shall be curbed with a heavy hand. The Minister made a fervent appeal to the transporters and fruit associations of the valley to work in tandem to overcome the bottlenecks and solve the problems mutually in the larger interests of the Horticulture Industry, which is the mainstay of state’s economy that provides livelihood to 25 lakh people directly or indirectly.
