11/26/2024 9:16:57 PM
Early Times Report
JAMMU, Nov 26: Department of Political Science in collaboration with NSS and NCC units of the College observed the Constitution Day on November 26, 2024, as on this day, final draft of the constitution was unanimously adopted by the Constituent Assembly.
Constitution Day is marked to honour the vision and efforts of the Constituent Assembly, which laid the foundation for a democratic republic. While the Constitution finally took effect a couple of months later on January 6, 1950, when India became a republic, its adoption remains a pivotal moment in Indian history. This year, the country is celebrating 75th anniversary of the adoption of the Indian Constitution. The program was co-ordinated by Prof.Amit Bhalla, Head Department of Political Science and was attended by all the faculty members and students of the college. He highlighted the salient features of the Indian Constitution, the essence of which is enshrined in its preamble. He reiterated the commitment to work in sync with the constitutional principles for faster growth, progress, and development of the nation.
Dr. Kulvinder Kour, Principal of the college presided over the program. While speaking on the occasion, she said that this monumental document laid the foundation for India's democratic governance, ensuring justice, liberty, equality, and fraternity for all its citizens. The day serves as a reminder of the efforts of the Constituent Assembly, led by Dr. B.R. Ambedkar, who is revered as the chief architect of the Constitution. Constitution Day is distinct from Republic Day, observed on January 26, which celebrates the implementation of the Constitution in 1950. Together, these two days highlight key milestones in India's journey to becoming a sovereign, democratic republic.
Dr. Shivani Sharma, NSS Programme Officer read out the Preamble of the Constitution which was followed by the faculty members and students of the college. Prof. Vijay Chandan, Dr.Rabia Iqbal, Prof.Vijay Kumari, Prof.Neha, Vikram Jamwal, Dr. Chinmei, Dr. Vandana, Dr. Ikhlaq and others also participated in the event. The programme ended with a vote of Thanks presented by Prof. Kusha Sharma.
