GDC Thannamandi celebrates Constitution Day

THANNAMANDI, Nov 26: The Department of Political Science in collaboration with the Internal Quality Assurance Cell (IQAC) of Government Degree College Thannamandi celebrated Constitution Day as part of Viksit Bharat Abhiyan @2047 here today.
To commemorate 75 Years of the adoption of the Constitution of India, a simple but impressive programme on the theme 'Hamara Samvidhan, hamara Samman' organized under the patronage of Prof. (Dr.) Farooq Ahmed, Principal of the College in which Dr. Ashaq Malik, Coordinator, IQAC was a resource person. Dr. Mohd Zabair and Dr. Ansir Ahmed Sheikh from the Department of Political Science coordinated the event.
While speaking on the occasion, Dr. Farooq Ahmed underlined the need of upholding constitutional values by focusing on fundamental duties and responsibilities, and fostering unity and diversity. He urged upon the students that rights and duties go hand in hand. "By fulfilling our Fundamental Duties, we contribute to the strength and unity of our nation," he said.
Dr. Ashaq Malik delivered the keynote address on the historical evolution of the Indian Constitution. He traced the journey of constitutional development from the colonial period, including the impact of key legislations like the Government of India Acts, to the adoption of the Constitution in 1949. His address highlighted the progressive nature of the document, which embodies the aspirations of a diverse and democratic India. Dr. Malik emphasized the importance of the preamble, calling it "soul of the constitution," and elaborated on its core principles of justice, liberty, equality, and fraternity. Furthermore, he shed light on the significance of the fundamental Rights and Directive Principle of State Policy. He remarked on the dynamic interplay between these constitutional provisions, stressing their role in ensuring inclusive growth and governance. Dr. Mohd Aftab Ul Haq, Department of Geography in College, also spoke on the occasion and highlighted the significance of the constitution.
A special pledge-taking ceremony was held where students and staff reaffirmed their commitment to uphold the values enshrined in the Constitution. The preamble was read, symbolizing unity and respect for the nation's founding document. An instant quiz competition on constitutional history, values, fundamental rights and duties was also part of this programme.
Earlier, Dr. Mohd Zabair introduced the audience about the programme and conducted the proceedings whereas Dr. Mudasir Ahmed Ghori presented the formal vote of thanks. The programme concluded with the national anthem.
A large number of students and staff members' participated in this interactive programme. Prominent among others present on the occasion were Dr. Naseem Ahmed, Dr. Abdul Haq Naimi, Rakesh Puri, Prof. Altaf Hussain, Prof. Supriya Gupta, Dr. Goher Iqbal, Prof. Fatima Parveen, Dr. Shiraz Ahmed, Anuj Bali, Dr. Ather Aziz Raina, Prof. Rumy Dar, Dr. Nagina Kouser, Prof. Rizwana Kosser, Dr. Mohd Shakoor, Dr. Showkat Ahmed and Sarfraz Ahmed, Dr. Mohd Arshaq and Dr. Atiq Ul Rehman.
