| Reviews functioning of schools in Jammu province | | Coordinate to achieve better results: Peerzada to officers | | Early Times Report Jammu, Apr 02 - Minister for Education and Public Enterprises Peerzada Mohammad Sayeed has called upon the officers of the Education Department to work with close coordination for all-round development of the education sector in the State. He asked for strict implementation of government’s fresh directives for increasing roll of the students in government educational institutions and building of infrastructure across the State. This was stated by the Minister while reviewing the overall functioning of School Education Department in Jammu province here today.

Peer, Director, School Education, Jammu, Zahida Khan, Chairman, J&K Board of School Education, Prof. Desh Bandhu, Secretary, J&K Board of School Education, Dr. Bashir Ahmad, Director, Sarva Shiksha Abhiyan, A. K. Raina and Joint Directors of School Education, Jammu, Chief Education Officers and Principles of District Institute of Education and Trainings, among others attended the meeting. The meeting reviewed in detail the measures taken for implementation of initiatives taken for revamping of education system, rationalization of the over-staffed institutions and physical and financial achievements registered under various schemes in Jammu province under the education sector. Plans and programmes for the new financial year were also discussed in the meeting. The Minister was apprised that 4,014 new primary schools have been opened under Sarva Shiksha Abhiyan (SSA), 4,989 primary schools and 4,353 Education Guarantee Scheme Centres (EGS) were upgraded. As many as 45,73,228 children were provided free text books, besides 44,236 teachers received in-service training.
It was also given out that 4,073 primary school buildings, 80 Block Resource Centres and 478 Cluster Resource Centers have been completed while construction of 410 girls’ middle schools have been brought under the purview of National Programme for Education of Girls at elementary-level. Speaking on the occasion, Peerzada stressed for timely-conduct of Board examinations so that the class-work would be started within the scheduled time. He also instructed for distribution of free text books, uniforms and scholarships as well strict adherence to the norms introduced by the department for the purpose. The Minister also directed the concerned officers to undertake frequent inspections of schools and ensure punctuality of the teaching and non-teaching staff, besides students in the schools. Prof. Deshbandhu, while assuring the Minister, said that distribution of text books will be completed within a month in Jammu province. Secretary Education, G. A. Peer exhorted upon the officers to expedite the selection of ReTs after completion of requisite formalities and intensify the supervision of the schools.
