SMVD Superspeciality Hospital performs combined CABG, Carotid Endarterectomy Surgery
11/27/2024 11:18:50 PM
Early Times Report
KATRA, Nov 27: Shri Mata Vaishno Devi Narayana Superspeciality Hospital, Katra, has achieved a groundbreaking milestone by performing Jammu and Kashmir's first-ever combined Coronary Artery Bypass Grafting (CABG) and Carotid Endarterectomy (CEA) surgery. This landmark procedure, performed on 74-year-old patient Raj Singh, demonstrates the hospital's expertise in managing complex, high-risk cases requiring exceptional multidisciplinary coordination and advanced post-operative care.
The Case Overview:
Mr. Raj Singh presented with episodes of unconsciousness and dizziness and was admitted to the Neurology department. Following a diagnosis of Cerebrovascular Accident (CVA), a CECT of the head and neck revealed bilateral carotid artery stenosis, while coronary angiography showed double vessel disease. Given the critical nature of his condition, the medical team planned a combined surgical approach to address both cardiac and neurovascular conditions.
On November 6, 2024, the patient underwent CABG alongside right carotid endarterectomy. The surgery, led by Dr. Vinod Bhan, Senior Consultant Cardiac Surgery, and Dr. Romil Dutt, Consultant Cardiac Surgery, was supported by the Cardiac Anesthesia team comprising Dr. Pankaj Kumar Gupta and Dr.Veenakshi. The procedure was completed successfully, and the patient was extubated the next day. After an uneventful recovery, he was discharged on November 13, 2024. At his first follow-up on November 18, 2024, the patient reported no complaints and is in stable condition.
This complex, high-risk surgery required seamless collaboration between the cardiac and neurology teams. Such procedures are only performed at a few specialized centers across the country, making this achievement a significant milestone for the region.
Dr. M.M. Mathavan, Facility Director at Shri Mata Vaishno Devi Narayana Superspeciality Hospital , praised the team for their dedication and exceptional skills, stating, "This milestone reflects the hospital's commitment to delivering cutting-edge healthcare to the region. It would not have been possible without the team's expertise and the continued support of the Shrine Board.
Dr. Yashpal Sharma, Executive Director of Shri Mata Vaishno Devi Institute of Medical Excellence, remarked, "This achievement highlights the hospital's ability to perform high-risk, advanced procedures that require expertise, precision, and multidisciplinary care. The vision and support of the Shrine Board have been instrumental in making Shri Mata Vaishno Devi Narayana Superspeciality Hospital a leader in advanced healthcare in J&K."
The Shrine Board's consistent efforts and investments in state-of-the-art infrastructure and skilled professionals have enabled the hospital to undertake such complex surgeries and elevate the healthcare landscape of the region.
This successful combined procedure reinforces Shri Mata Vaishno Devi Narayana Superspeciality Hospital's reputation as a premier medical institution dedicated to delivering world-class healthcare to the people of Jammu and Kashmir.
