| CM not unfazed over fresh security threat | | Pak must show action, Omar says after PM | | Early Times Report Jammu , Apr 2 Pakistan should fulfil its commitment by not allowing its soil to be used for terrorist activities and bring to book those responsible for the Mumbai attacks, Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Omar Abdullah said today.
Abdullah, who was responding to questions on Indo-Pak ties, said that since India is busy in the process of parliament elections, the possibility of political dialogue between the two sides can be taken up only after the polls. "However, we seek implementation of Pakistan&aposs commitment not to allow its territory to be used for promoting terrorism and bring those culprits to book, who were responsible for Mumbai attack,"he said. " Pakistan needs to deal with the terrorist groups in its own interest and address these concerns because the country itself is in turmoil," Abdullah said. Asked about the recent major infiltration attempts along the Line of Control and subsequent encounter in Kupwara district, the chief minister said all possible measures will be taken to thwart future infiltration attempts from across the border. "We never underestimate threat of militants nor want to exaggerate it. Attempts of infiltration are being made with snow melting on the passes and our troops are taking all possible steps to ensure that future infiltration attempts are thwarted,"he said.
Omar said that the heightened threat to his life would not change his style of working. "This is a situation with which one will have to live," Abdullah told reporters here, confirming that he had received a letter from Union Home Minister P. Chidambaram informing him about the new threats to his life. "I have lived with assassination bids and I believe that everything is in the hands of almighty... terrorists cannot derail that," Abdullah said. He claimed that he was a political worker and would continue to move among the people. Abdullah, who enjoys Z-plus category security, said that he is not enhancing his security. Three former chief ministers, Ghulam Nabi Azad, Mufti Mohammad Sayeed and Farooq Abdullah and the opposition Peoples Democratic Party president Mehbooba Mufti are under terror threat. The union home minister had recently written letters to political leaders across the country asking them to take extra precautions during the Lok Sabha polls as terrorists had prepared a list to target prominent figures.
