DC discusses action plan for establishment of drug de-addiction centre in Udhampur

UDHAMPUR, Nov 29: A meeting was held here today under the chairpersonship of Deputy Commissioner Saloni Rai, to discuss the Action plan for the establishment of the proposed drug de-addiction centre in the district.
The centre is to be established under the National Action Plan for Drug Demand Reduction (NAPDDR) through the District Red Cross Society.
The meeting was attended by Additional Deputy Commissioner Prem Singh, Additional SP Sandeep Bhat, District Social Welfare Officer Kanika Gupta, Chief Medical Officer Dr. Anil Manhas, Tehsildar Udhampur Jai Singh and Medical Superintendent District Hospital Udhampur.
Detailed discussions were held on different aspects related to the centre’s establishment, including infrastructure requirements, essential facilities and logistical arrangements to ensure its effective functioning.
The DC directed the officers to prioritize counseling and motivational initiatives for individuals struggling with drug addiction. She also instructed the concerned officers to submit an action-taken report on the progress of these initiatives. Furthermore, she emphasized the importance of organizing recreational events to engage and rehabilitate drug addicts in the district. The officers were tasked with identifying suitable accommodation for the centre at the earliest. The DC also stressed the need for collaboration with NGOs to ensure the centre operates smoothly and achieves its objectives effectively.
