11/29/2024 10:29:33 PM
Early Times Report

Jammu, Nov 29: The newly appointed SSP Traffic Rural Jammu visited the districts of Rajouri and Poonch to gain a firsthand understanding of the region’s traffic-related issues. The visit included interactions with civil society members, transport officials, and other stakeholders, as well as a briefing session with traffic personnel deployed in these districts.
During the visit, instructions were given to the officers and officials to regulate traffic effectively and minimize congestion, ensuring that the public is not inconvenienced. The SSP directed the enforcement of the Motor Vehicle Act and traffic rules to curb violations and improve road safety. Officers were also reminded to utilize the equipment issued to them, such as body cameras, fluorescent jackets, traffic signal rods, speed radar guns, noise pollution devices, and breath analyzers.
Emphasis was placed on conducting awareness programs in schools, colleges, and public spaces to educate drivers, transporters, shopkeepers, and the general public about traffic safety. Officers were also urged to maintain close coordination with the executive police and civil administration for smooth traffic management in their jurisdictions. A special focus was placed on minimizing road accidents and loss of life.
In addition to meeting with SSPs of Rajouri and Poonch, the SSP Traffic Rural Jammu and his team toured Poonch town to assess traffic management challenges, particularly in busy areas like the old bazaar and bus stand. Local residents and media shared their concerns, which were addressed in detail.
The visit also included an assessment of the road conditions along the under-construction NH-144A from Bhambla to Poonch.
The SSP identified bottleneck points and accident hotspots, issuing directives for corrective measures to improve road safety. Discussions with construction agencies will follow to implement necessary safety measures such as reflectors, warning signs, and diversions, particularly for night-time and adverse weather conditions.
A coordinated effort involving all stakeholders will be undertaken to reduce accidents, alleviate traffic congestion, and ensure hassle-free vehicular movement for commuters.
