After worst-ever poll debacle Mehbooba seeks feedback from Jammu leaders
11/29/2024 10:45:10 PM
Early Times Report

Jammu, Nov 29: In the aftermath of the People’s Democratic Party’s (PDP) worst-ever performance in the recently concluded Assembly elections, party president Mehbooba Mufti convened a crucial meeting with senior leaders in Jammu. For the first time since its inception in 1999, the PDP managed to secure only three seats in the 90-member Assembly, marking a significant decline from its earlier standings.
Held at the PDP headquarters at Gandhi Nagar, the meeting brought together key party figures to analyze the electoral results and formulate a roadmap for recovery. Addressing the gathering, Mehbooba acknowledged the disappointing performance and stressed the need for introspection and collective efforts to reconnect with the electorate.
“We must identify the reasons behind this setback and work together to regain the trust and confidence of the people of Jammu and Kashmir,” she said, reaffirming the party’s commitment to its founding principles of justice, dignity, and fairness. She also vowed to continue advocating for the rights and aspirations of the region’s residents.
The PDP’s electoral decline has been attributed to internal challenges and the growing dominance of rival parties. The National Conference (NC) and Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) emerged as the key players in the elections, securing 42 and 29 seats respectively.
