BIS JKBO hosts 6th Mentors Training Program

JAMMU, Nov 30: The Bureau of Indian Standards (BIS), Jammu & Kashmir Branch Office (JKBO), successfully organized the 6th edition of its two-day Mentors Training Program on Learning Science via Standards (LSVS) at Lemon Tree Hotel, Rail Head Complex, Jammu, from 28th to 29th November 2024. The program was inaugurated by Sh. Islam Khan, Assistant Commissioner, Kendriya Vidyalaya Regional Office, Jammu, who served as the Chief Guest. In his address, he commended BIS for its innovative initiative and emphasized the importance of the LSVS program in equipping teachers and mentors with essential tools to inspire students in the fields of quality education and standardization. The event saw active participation from over 80 science teachers and mentors from standard clubs across Jammu, Reasi, Kathua, and Samba districts. The program also included a visit to the BIS Referral Assaying Laboratory in Jammu on the second day, where participants observed advanced gold testing methods such as cupellation, partition, and XRF, gaining insights into how BIS standards are applied to ensure the quality and authenticity of gold products.
Under the guidance of Mr. Tilak Raj, Director and Head of BIS JKBO, the program featured expert-led sessions facilitated by Mr. Hitesh Yadav, Deputy Director, JKBO, and Mr. Ashish Kumar Dwivedi, Standard Promotion Officer. Notable sessions were led by resource persons Mrs. Monika Sharma and Ms. Mehak Rasool, focusing on:
The importance of BIS-certified products in ensuring safety and quality.
Methods for applying scientific knowledge in understanding quality and standards.
Developing lesson plans that connect theoretical concepts to real-world applications.
Interactive discussions and hands-on activities enriched participants' understanding of integrating standards into science education. Several mentors were also recognized for their outstanding contributions to BIS standard club activities in their schools, with 16 school mentors being honored for their dedication.
Participants hailed the LSVS Training Program as a valuable platform for collaboration and knowledge-sharing, appreciating its innovative approach to linking standards with science education. The successful conclusion of the 6th edition reaffirmed BIS JKBO's commitment to promoting quality, innovation, and excellence in education.
