| JU firing incident: Inquiry committee submits report | | | Early Times Report Jammu, April 03 : The six members inquire committee constituted to probe firing incident out side the Jammu University’s Vice Chancellor’s chamber last month has reportedly submitted its report to the authorities. It is important to maintain here that, the committee constituted under the leadership of convener Prof Naresh Padha, and five other professors by the Vice Chancellor Prof Varun Sahni, to investigate into the causes of violence, and theft of employee’s bike. Interestingly, the committee was not ordered to probe the female student’s harassment by coordinator in the Directorate of Distance Education (DDE), after which students especially females took out massive protest in the campus demanding removal of the allegedly accused professor. This generated a felling of insecurity among the female students and scholars, who had heard such cases but none faced humiliation at the hands of their guides, said a research scholar on condition of anonymity. “We are unsafe since action was taken against the accused professor instead authorities have attached him with the registrars office”, said another anonymous. She alleged “The ‘accused professor’ is already involved in another case and how he is again being saved by the authorities of the varsity”. “The committee should have investigated the issue which led to protest”, said Surjeet Singh, adding student community should get justice. He maintained that committee report is not been made public which has created suspicious about its finding”. However, University officials did not confirm that the report has been submitted.
