Membership drive strengthens party's ground: Kavinder Gupta
11/30/2024 10:54:21 PM
Early Times Report
JAMMU, Nov 30: To remain relevant and effective, a political party must sustain its growth, renew its base, and continually remain in contact with the people and the membership drive is an important means to achieve these goals. The membership drive/campaign not only expands the party's reach but also strengthens its ground.
Kavinder Gupta, former Speaker, Jammu and Kashmir Assembly & former Deputy Chief Minister, said this while discussing the importance of membership drive with Balbir Ram Rattan, BJP senior leader & former Vice Chairperson, at party headquarters, on Saturday.
Kavinder Gupta said that the objective of membership drive is to increase the party's numerical strength. A larger membership base is greater political influence and strong hold. When a party registers a large number of members, it sends a powerful message about its popularity and appeal to the electorates. This expansion is particularly crucial in competitive political environments where numbers often determine a party's capacity to mobilize voters and influence public discourse.
Kavinder further said that one of the most significant advantages of membership drive is the ability to strengthen grassroot connections. In modern democracies, where people often feel disconnected from political institutions, membership campaigns act as a bridge between the party and the citizens. By reaching out to individuals at the local level, political party, demonstrate its commitment to public welfare, development, equality, and people-friendly governance.
Many prominent political leaders began their journeys as ordinary members who were actively involved in party activities. By expanding its membership, a party cultivates a pool of future leaders, ensuring continuity and resilience, he said.
Kavinder Gupta said that for any political party, sustainability is a long-term goal. Membership drives play a crucial role in achieving this by ensuring a steady influx of new members who can replace those who retire, become inactive, or leave the organization. This process of renewal is vital for the party's survival and growth.
