UDHAMPUR, Dec 2: Udhampur Police foiled a narcotics smuggling bid by recovering a huge quantity of psychotropic substance 'poppy straw' and held one person with 211 kgs of poppy straw at naka point Jakhani, NHW.
Amid ongoing drive against drug trafficking and substance abuse, a police team of PS Udhampur led by its SHO while on naka checking at Jakhani NHW, stopped one vehicle (truck) bearing Registration number HP73-B- 2204 for checking which was coming from Srinagar towards Jammu. In the process of search, 08 bags (total net quantity 211 kgs) filled with poppy straw like substance got recovered from the above said vehicle.
On preliminary inquiry, the driver disclosed his identity as Mohd. Hanief S/O Haider Ali R/O Village Toli, District Chamba, HP. The said accused person (driver) has been arrested on the spot, vehicle and contraband seized.
In this connection, a Case FIR NO. 476/2024 U/S 8/15 NDPS Act stands registered in P/S Udhampur and investigation of the case has been taken up. |
