12/2/2024 9:59:31 PM
Early Times Report
JAMMU, Dec 2: The Jammu & Kashmir (J&K) climbing team made the Union Territory proud at the IMF North Zone Sport Climbing Competition, held at the Indian Mountaineering Foundation (IMF) in New Delhi from 29th November to 1st December, 2024, by securing seven medals - including one Gold, three Silver, and three Bronze.
Shivani Charak won Gold in Lead Climbing and earned two Silver medals in Speed Climbing and Bouldering in the Women's category.
Siraj ud Din, a promising new talent from Pulwama, bagged Silver in Lead Climbing in the Sub Junior Boys category.
Ayaana Bhagat won Bronze in Speed Climbing in the Sub Junior Girls category.
Kashish Bharti claimed Bronze in Speed Climbing in the Boys category.
Arun Deep Singh secured Bronze in Speed Climbing in the Men's category.
However, there was disappointment for Arun Deep Singh, the reigning North Zone Champion in Lead Climbing, who was leading in the finals but slipped and finished fourth. Similarly, despite leading in Speed Climbing, he slipped during the final round and had to settle for Bronze.
Despite these setbacks, all medalists from J&K have been selected to compete in the upcoming National Sport Climbing Championship.
Zorawar Singh Jamwal, President of the Mountaineering Association of J&K, congratulated the climbers for their stellar performance and expressed confidence that they would continue to excel in the National Championship. He also assured full support and cooperation for their coaching and practice at international-standard climbing walls.
The 12-member J&K team, sponsored by the J&K Sports Council, was accompanied by Shashi Kant Sharma (Manager) and Shilpa Charak (Coach).
