| Abhay Rustum Sopori awarded Maa Sharika Samman | | |
New Delhi, Apr 3- The young music maestro Abhay Rustum Sopori has been awarded the prestigious ‘Maa Sharika Samman 2009’ for his incredible excellence and contribution in the field of art and culture. The award was presented by Prof. M.L. Madan, Vice Chancellor Pt. Deen Dayal Upadhyaya University and Secretary National Academy of Agricultural Sciences.
Others who were honoured for their contribution in their respective fields included Brig. Sunil Razdan for Defense Services, M.K. Kaw for Civil Administration and Dr. Shakti Bhan for Medicine and Community Service. On this occasion young Janvi Dhar was also felicitated for her meritorious achievement in academics. Maa Sharika Samman is given to individuals who have done exemplary work at different levels for the welfare of the society. The felicitation ceremony was attended by various dignitaries. Sopori later expressed his gratitude to the organization for bestowing him with the prestigious award named after Goddess Maa Sharika and accepted the award as a holy blessing.
Abhay has carried forward the great legacy of his family in propagating and promoting the culture of the State of Jammu and Kashmir globally. He has the credit for creating a Cultural Revolution in J&K and bringing the youth together through music. He has performed at the remotest corners of the State creating cultural awareness amongst the youth. His efforts and initiatives have been path-breaking creating a new generation of music connoisseurs and bringing more recognition to the art and culture of the State at national and international level. He has not only established himself as one of the most prominent musicians of the present generation but simultaneously promoted numerous upcoming and talented musicians of the country.
He has also been the youngest artist from the country to be awarded the prestigious Sangeet Natak Akademi Award – Ustad Bismillah Khan Yuva Puraskar, prestigious Dogri Award, Sangeet Bhushan Award, Excellence Award, Young India Award, Juenjo Korean International Heritage Award and Kalawant Samman amongst others. He has participated in various prestigious festivals across the world and has many notable albums to his credit.
