Lamp Lighting and Oath taking ceremony at College of Nursing, AIIMS Jammu

Jammu, Dec 3: The College of Nursing at AIIMS Jammu organized a grand event today, comprising Lamp Lighting and Oath Taking Ceremony, followed by an exciting Freshers Party, marking the beginning of a new academic session for the nursing students. Lamp Lighting and Oath Taking Ceremony marks a significant milestone in the lives of nursing students. The event, which symbolizes the beginning of the students' professional journey, was attended by hospital administrators, distinguished faculty, and the first batch of nursing students. The ceremonies were held in a celebratory and vibrant atmosphere, reflecting both the solemnity of the nursing profession and the enthusiasm of the new students.
The event commenced with the traditional Lamp Lighting Ceremony, which signifies the onset of knowledge and wisdom. The ceremonial lighting of the lamp was performed by Prof. (Dr.) Shakti Kumar Gupta, Executive Director & CEO of AIIMS Jammu, Lt. Gen. Sunil Kant, Dean Research, Medical Superintendent and HoD, Hospital Administration, Dr. Rimple Sharma, Principal College of Nursing and other Dignitaries.
The lighting of the lamp was a symbolic gesture to herald the path of enlightenment, compassion, and professional integrity that the students are about to embark upon in their nursing careers.
Following the Lamp Lighting, the Oath Taking Ceremony took place, where the first-year nursing students took a solemn pledge to uphold the noble values of the nursing profession.
They pledged to dedicate themselves to patient care, uphold ethical standards, provide service with compassion, and commit to the continuous learning required to excel in their field.
The oath was administered by Dr. Rimple Sharma, Principal, College of Nursing.
In her address, Dr. Sharma stressed the significance of nursing as a respected profession, encouraging students to always act with empathy, professionalism, and integrity in their practice.
She emphasized that nursing is not just a career but a calling to serve humanity with care, commitment, and passion. She also highlighted the importance of Compassion, Commitment and Competence in providing the best care to patients, and advised the students to never stop learning and improving.
The spirit of camaraderie was captured during the Freshers Party, which followed the formal ceremonies. The event provided an opportunity for the students to showcase their talent of dancing, singing, poetry and ramp walking. The students participated in various performances, creating a lively environment for everyone present. The Fresher’s Party was an unforgettable experience, fostering friendship and unity among the students.
Dr. Shakti Kumar Gupta in his enchanting and noteworthy speech welcomed the new nursing students to the AIIMS family and assured them of the institution’s commitment to providing world-class education, training, and healthcare facilities. In his address, Dr. Gupta encouraged the students to maintain the highest standards of care, continuously pursue research activities, and contribute to the betterment of healthcare services
