AIDS awareness lecture, elocution competition organized

JAMMU, Dec 3: The Red Ribbon Club, in collaboration with the NSS units of GGM Science College, organized an impactful AIDS awareness lecture and elocution competition, which saw active participation from a large number of students. The event aimed to raise awareness about HIV/AIDS, its prevention, and reducing stigma associated with the disease.
The program commenced with a speech by Principal Prof. (Dr.) Romesh Kumar Gupta, who emphasized the importance of such initiatives in educating students about public health issues and fostering a sense of social responsibility. He praised the efforts of the organizers and urged students to engage in awareness campaigns.
Dr. Jyoti Heer, Senior Resident in the Pathology Department at GMC Udhampur, was the key speaker. She provided valuable insights into the medical aspects of HIV/AIDS, covering preventive measures, the significance of early diagnosis, and treatment protocols.
Following the lecture, an elocution competition was held, showcasing the oratory skills of the students. Nitesh Choudhary secured the first prize, Sumeet Kumar won second place, and Merryleen Kour took third place.
The event was smoothly managed by NSS volunteers Mr. Syed Hassan and Mr. Farhan, ensuring a seamless flow of the program.
The initiative was organized under the guidance of Prof. P.S. Thakur, Dr. Bhekampal Singh, Prof. Sunita Kumari, Dr. Arti Sharma, and NSS Programme Officers Dr. Rahul Kait and Dr. Neha Sharma. Esteemed faculty members, including Prof. Yasmeen Mughal, Dr. Anita Sharma, and Dr. Arti Heer, served as adjudicators for the competition and supported the participants.
The program concluded with a vote of thanks delivered by Dr. Neha Sharma, marking a successful event aimed at spreading awareness and encouraging active student participation.
