12/4/2024 10:42:29 PM
Early Times Report

Jammu, Dec 4: In a significant milestone for the Kwar Hydroelectric (H.E.) Project (540 MW), the pouring of concrete at the deepest foundation level of the Concrete Gravity Dam was officially inaugurated on December 4, 2024.
The event was conducted virtually by R.K. Chaudhary, Hon'ble CMD of NHPC Ltd. and SJVN Ltd., in the presence of S.K. Singh, Director (Projects & Technical) of NHPC Ltd., and Santosh Kumar, CVO of NHPC Ltd.
R.K. Chaudhary congratulated the teams of NHPC, CVPPL, and M/s Patel Engineering Limited for starting the concreting process a month ahead of schedule. He emphasized the importance of completing the dam construction above the construction sluice level, which will enable continuous work during the monsoon season, leading to early completion of the dam.
This achievement will also contribute significantly to cost savings and time efficiency, especially with the construction of the coffer dam for an additional season. The event was attended by key officials including Ramesh Mukhiya, MD of CVPPL, S.K. Giri, Head of the Kwar Project, and senior officers from NHPC, CVPPL, and M/s Patel Engineering Ltd. The MD of CVPPL expressed his gratitude to the CMD, NHPC & SJVN for their ongoing support and reaffirmed CVPPL’s commitment to the timely commissioning of the project.
The Kwar H.E. Project (540 MW) is a joint venture between NHPC Ltd. (a Government of India enterprise) and JKSPDC (a Government of Jammu and Kashmir enterprise) under Chenab Valley Power Projects Ltd. (CVPPL). CVPPL is responsible for the development of four hydroelectric projects with a total capacity of approximately 3,094 MW in the Chenab River Basin in Jammu & Kashmir.
The completion of the dam construction is crucial for the overall success of the project, as well as for the socio-economic development of the surrounding areas.
