| Over 13 Lakh pilgrims visit Mata’s shrine in 3 months | | 50,000 visit Bahu Fort temple as Ramanavmi celebrated with fervour | | Munish Gupta JAMMU, April 3: Like other parts of the country Ramnavmi—birthday of Lord Shri Rama---was celebrated In J&K with religious fervour and gaiety. The City of Temples wore a festive look as the entire city was well decorated with saffron flags, buntings and banners on this auspicious occasion. More than 50,000 devotees today visited Bahu Fort to have darshan of the deity of Kali Mata installed in the premises of the Fort. Chanting slogans in praise of Mata, hundreds devotees were seen lined up in the premises of the temple very much before dawn. The police deployed at Bahu- Fort today had very tough time to control the unprecedent rush of the devotees at the Shrine. Security arrangements were also very tight there to avoid any any untoward incident. There were also the langers being arranged by some of the religious organizations and the local people. The Tawi Ghats at Bikram Chowk, Har Ki Poodhi and Bahu Fort wore a festive look with hundreds of devotees including men, women and children waiting for their turn to immerse the idols and Sankh in the water. The temple of Checchi Mata, situated on the Jammu-Pathankote National Highway near Samba also witnessed heavy rush today. Governor, N. N. Vohra, today visited the Holy Cave Shrine of Shri Mata Vaishno Devi in Trikuta Hills and paid obeisance at the sanctum sanctorum on the auspicious occasion of Ramanavami. The Governor had darshan of the sanctum sanctorum and performed pooja. He prayed for brotherhood, communal harmony, peace, progress and prosperity in the State. The Governor, who is also the Chairman, Shri Mata Vaishno Devi Shrine Board (SMVDSB), offered puran ahuti at the Chhat Chandi Maha Yagya, performed during the Navratras, for world peace. The Maha Yagya concluded today. The Governor interacted with a large number of pilgrims and enquired about the arrangements made by the Shrine Board for them. The pilgrims expressed appreciation of the arrangements and the facilities put in place for them. The Principal Secretary to Governor and Chief Executive Officer, SMVDSB, B. B. Vyas, Additional Chief Executive Officer, SMVDSB, M. K. Dwivedi, Deputy Commissioner, Reasi, Sanjeev Verma, SSP Reasi, Anand Jain, Additional SP Katra, Ashok Sharma and Technical Consultant to the Shrine Board, H. L. Maini, accompanied the Governor during the visit. The Governor took stock of the various development works under execution and discussed measures for further development of the Shrinearea to provide more facilities to the visiting pilgrims. The Governor issued instructions for immediately replacing the CGI sheets of rain and shelter sheds from Sanjichhat to the Bhawan, wherever required, besides repainting of iron grills and poles, enroute. He also asked for replacing the sodium vapour lights with energy saving bulbs. The Governor gave instructions for planting 5,000 saplings of fast growing species of flower plants all along the track. Likewise, he directed that time-bound action should be taken for improvement of drains and relaying of tiles on the track from Sanjichhat to the Bhawan and discussed modalities for construction of a residential block in the Shrine area. He also visited Bhaint Shop, Waiting Hall and the under-renovation Bhojanalaya. The Governor also emphasized the need for raising of Vatikas on the alternate track from Adhkunwari to the Bhawan for further improving the aesthetics and ambience of this route. The Governor was apprised by Dwivedi that over 13.14 lakh pilgrims had darshan of the Holy Cave Shrine of Shri Mata Vaishno Devi during the first three months of this year, which is 1.60 lakh pilgrims more as compared to the corresponding period last year. He said that during the Holy Navratras this year, as many as 1,65,449 Yatris paid obeisance at the sanctum sanctorum. He also gave details of the facilities being provided by the Shrine Board to the Yatris during their pilgrimage An impressive Ramnavmi procession (Shobha Yatra) taken out in the walled city in which thousands of devotees participated. The procession started from Shri Raghunath Mandir and culminated at Hari Market after passing through the main bazars and localities of the city. The procession passed through Raghunath Bazar, Kanak Mandi, Rajinder Bazar, Lakhdhata Bazar, Jain Bazar, Pirmitha, Pucca Danga, Moti Bazar, Raj Tilak Road, Purani Mandi and City Chowk. The route of yatra from Raghunath Mandir to Hari Market was well decorated. Stalls of fruits and sweets were installed at various places to distribute parshad among the participants of the yatra. The Shobha yatra accorded rousing reception at several places. Besides distributing fruits and sweets, people throw flower petals on the yatris participated in the procession. Thousands of Jammuites thronged to route of the yatra to have glimpses of the traditional Rath which carrying deities of Rama, Lakshamana, Sita and Hanuman. Followed by this Rath there was scores of tableau belonging to the various social and religious organisations depicting lives and teachings of Shri Rama. Thousands of devotees chanting slogans in praise of Lord Rama accompanied the Yatra all the way from Raghunath Mandir to Hari Market. Jai Shri Ram rented in the air after repeated intervals. The atmosphere surcharged with religious fervour following the deafening slogans of the devotees. The authorities have made elaborate security arrangements to avoid any untoward incident. Additional forces were deployed in the entire of the Yatra. Besides prominent citizens and political leaders, senior civil and police officials accompanied the yatra. The Ramnavmi process was jointly organised by the Shri Sanatam Dharam Sabha and Dharamarth Trust with the collaboration of various social and religious organisations. However, the temples of the city witnessed heavy rush today as thousands of the devotees thronged to the temples to perform pooja- archana on this auspicious occasion.
